I had stem cell harvest and transplant two years ago all went very well.
The only thing of note was when I received the transplant all I could taste was tinned tomatoes, good luck

Hi Fran each cycle consisted of two weeks on and two weeks off, lots of pills and one zometa infusion a month.
The first cycle was fine then the second one I suffered a lot of fatigue and after the third it was stopped.
I hope this has helped and sending best wishes to you both.
    Take care

Hi Fran I was diagnosed just over 2 years ago and I was put forward for the same chemotherapy,I only managed 3 cycles, then I started to feel unwell,my consultant stopped that chemo stating that my levels were ok.
I then started harvesting for my stem cell transplant in March then in April I was admitted for the transplant all went well and I was home in 2 and a half weeks.
I did get an infection in my bowel but this was remedied by antibiotics.
At home I took each day as it came.sometimes fatigue but I just took advice from my body n took it easy on those days.
One and a half years on I am leading a normal life.
My only treatment now is a Zometa infusion every 3 months and my consultant is very pleased with my condition and my blood results are all normal.
    Hope this helps.

Hi I was diagnosed with MM 2 years ago I have received chemo same as your husband,I also had to isolate whilst having treatment.I was given stem cell treatment after 6 months of finishing chemo.I am now living an ordinary life and I am back to my previous life style.
I hope this gives you both help.

I had the same problem you need a letter from your consultant, take this to your pharmacy and get them to input the info manually, this is the only way, hope this helps

Hi I had a stem cell transplant a year gone April.I can only say everything went according to plan with minimal side effects being slight bowel infection, this was quickly put right with antibiotics.
I was warned by the staff to expect a strong taste of tomatoes as soon as the transplant started…..I haven’t eaten tin toms since ha ha.
Once you are discharged let your body tell you when to rest, some days I would feel very lethargic and would try to carry on with everyday things then I realised I had to rest which I did and slowly my days got back to normal.
Please take everyday as it comes, take care

Hi Mick I have had the exact treatment as your wife and suffered severe nerve pain in my feet.My GP prescribed Gabapentin which did not work ,they then changed my medication to Pregablin increasing as required, and this worked so very well. Hope this helps

Hiya I went through exactly the same last year, during my break before my stem cell harvest I had no treatment, however a week before harvest I had to have injections to promote the harvest, these injections were for five days before harvesting.Just an extra reassure you the stem cell harvest was uneventful.Best wishes

Hiya I was harvested in March this year, everything went extremely well,I just sat in a chair while they removed what they needed,it wasn’t painful nor uncomfortable.

I was admitted to hospital for my stem cell transplant on 12 th April, without any problems.
The hospital staff were amazing from start to finish.
I was discharged on 30 April and I haven’t looked back.

Just have confidence in the team as they are doing this procedure every day and they really know what they’re doing.

I really hope this has helped.

Hi Tonyb I had chemo for four months then a rest period after which I had my stem cells harvested.
After which I was admitted to hospital I received a high dose of chemo then received my stem cell transplant.
After which I spent some time in hospital with no serious side effects. I was discharged home where my recovery improved quickly,I still have fatigue days but I just give in and rest.
I am 70 years old,I wish you all the luck in the world, take care.

Hi,I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last August and similar to yourself I had 4 doses of chemo.I was harvested beginning of April,it was easy and pain free and then I was admitted two weeks later for stem cell transplant. This again went very well, the only thing I warn you of is when the infusion starts all you can taste is tinned tomatoes and you smell of them for a few days. After discharge it took me until September before I was back to near normal.I must admit that I am 70 years old and I feel fitter now than I have done in years.Hope all goes well, take care
