    Hi Only me

I have asked previously about a hereditary link, and the answer has always been no, however, recently I had some blood tests done and had raised ESR ……. this then led to me having to be tested for Myeloma!! the doc said best to rule it out with my Mum having it!?!
So really not sure but think that it sounds like it is something that should be investigated. My results so far have proved negative, however, I am under rheumatology having further tests.

    Dear carol

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, I lost my Mum on the 13th of May to this dreaded disease. I fill like there is a great big hole where she should be, I still can't get it into my head that she is really gone.

I hope as people say it does get easier.

    Hi All
Thank you all for your lovely comments …… it's a very tough time at the moment, just not sure what to do with myself!! Still can't believe she has gone and that I will never be able to talk to her again, I want to pick up the phone so badly just to speak to her one last time.

    Hi Christin

I am so sorry that you have had to join this site, sounds like you have been thrown in at the deepend with all this…….if it is any consolation, my Mum was diagnosed with MM in july 09 at 64, she was in hospital for around 6 months, she went from being a healthy person that was always on the go, to this extremely poorly lady. She was totally bed ridden and at one point could do nothing for herself, having to be hoisted out of bed etc, she is still in a wheelchair but can manage to walk around the house, she is a very determined person, and for that i am truly thankful. What I am trying to say is that things do look really bad right now, however, things do get better with the right treatments. It is really hard when you first get the diagnosis, I really struggled to come to terms with it all, but on here you will find friends that will help you through tough times, and celebrate the happy times, you do not need to go through this feeling alone. If i can help at all please do not hesitate to contact me, my email is michelleakitt29@hotmail.com. keep your chin up with much love and hugs michelle x x

    Hi Bridget

as you know mum has tried numerous painkillers, she is quite settled on methadone and oxynorm, good luck and hope you get the pain sorted quickly.
Are you on anything like gabapentin or pregablin? they are for bone pain.

    Hi Angelina

I think it is a fantastic idea, my mums specialist nurse suggested that to me when my mum was first diagnosed, to keep for my children, as they are very close to their Nan. I dont think anyone would be upset by this, as you are doing it for your children. good luck.

Yes Bridget thats the one, but dont think it is spelt like that, but i just cant find the correct spelling lol!!!
I do feel really positive her proteins have only got up to 9, and that the hospital are on the ball, and not letting it go too high and I have so much faith in them.
Another 4 wk before we go again, so that we get another cycle of revlimid in, then i suppose its just see what happens.
Good to see you on here again Roz and thank you for your kind words. I do try and read post most days.
and Sue thank you I will keep you posted, im sure we will find more out next time we go.

    Hi Bridget

I think that being nursed at home all depends on whereabouts in the country you live, here in Sheffield we have a fantastic service (which i have to add that I work for!!) We are part funded by Marie Curie and the rest is funded by the nhs (hence my contract is with the Nhs)we are a unique service and cover patients on a 24hr basis for anyone believed to be in their last wk of life…..The support workers do a fantastic job, they are all brilliant (I work in the office). This service should be nationwide in my opinion. The Nhs is supposed to be changing to allow patients to remain in their own home to pass with dignity. I hope that our service can be rolled out around the nation, We have been running for more than 10 yrs, and I get quite upset that this service is not available for everyone!!! We are extremely lucky in Sheffield, that we have dedicated hospitals, normal ones (whatever that is lol) Weston park which is a dedicated cancer hospital and also the Childrens hospital. It would be fantastic if the goverment allow more hospice at home as more and more patients are wanting to live their last days at home with their families.
I hope you father-in-law is ok Bridget and my love goes out to you and your family at this time.

    with much love Michelle x x x
